Stop by our store for your free Spot Cleaning Kit The carpet industry has spent millions of dollars trying to find a way to extend the life of carpets, but it all still leads to maintenance and consistent quality cleaning of your investment! Most carpet manufacturers recommend having your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year on top of vacuuming the carpeting at least once a week (more often for heavy traffic areas).
Spot Cleaning Always pre-test an inconspicuous area or remnant first. First, absorb as much of the stain as possible with white cloths. Blot the stained area with white towels dampened with cool water until there is no more transfer of the stain to the cloth. If the spot is lighter than the color of the carpet you may have dye degradation or color loss. Cleaning will not correct this problem. If the stain is water soluble (beer, coffee, milk, mud, juice, food, etc.) use a small amount of mild detergent (one teaspoon Ivory liquid per one pint of water). Sponge the solution into the area and work the solution from the outside edges towards the center. If the stain is solvent soluble (oil, tar, grease, lipstick, gum, etc.) use Energine, K2R, or Carbona. Never scrub! And never pour the chemical directly on the spot. Apply with a cloth and gently blot. When the stain has been removed or released from the fiber, follow with the detergent solution procedure. If the spot is completely removed, neutralize the area with 1 part white vinegar, 3 parts water. If not successful, contact your fiber producer or call a professional. Have your carpets professionally cleaned annually to remove residuals and hidden soils that might cause harm to the fiber and color. Don't wait until your carpet looks dirty. Slight soiling is easily removed with warm water extraction and a very small amount of cleaning agent, where as heavily soiled areas require additional chemicals which are generally more concentrated and difficult to completely neutralize and rinse from the yarn. |
